
Melissa Crystal O'Neil (born July 12 1988,) is a Canadian actress and singer. In 2005, O'Neil won the third season of Canadian Idol, the first Canadian female to have won. As an actress, she is known for her roles as Two as Rebecca / Portia Lin on the Syfy science fiction series Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama series The Rookie.Although she was praised highly by judges, she suffered huge setbacks in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals as she was voted in the lowest three and the bottom two in both the bottom three and bottom two. The judges were shocked by this and encouraged viewers to vote for Melissa for her vocal talent. O'Neil's performances were constantly praised and O'Neil did not fall back to the bottom 3. Zack Werner, the judge, declared O'Neil "a potential winner the entire competition". The 7th of September, 2005, O'Neil was able to make it into the final two contestants of the contest, along with Rex Goudie, and after some more impressive performances she was praised by judge Werner famously announced that the headlines in the next day's news would read "The King, Kalan Porter has passed away and long live the Queen." O'Neil defeated Goudie in the final results ceremony on September 14, 2005 . He went on to win the title of Canada's third Idol.
